Tuesday Treat on Wednesday

I forgot to tell you what tasty and aromatic treat awaited me in the kitchen on Tuesday morning– homemade applesauce!

I used this recipe (minus the sugar, because Tall Guy and I are used to unsweetened applesauce, and I used a mix of apples, because that’s what we had on hand). If you have a slow cooker, no excuses – make this!

Step one: Throw chopped up apples (and maybe some pears, don’t bother skinning anything) into the slow cooker.
Step two: Add some water and some lemon juice, and cinnamon if you like.
Step three: Turn on the slow cooker and let it do its thing!

A sweet apple-cinnamon aroma wafted all through the flat. What a great smell (and taste!) to wake up or come home to! And it is so easy to create your own variations: I’m in love with cranberries, so of course I threw a handful of those in, too. Raspberries or blueberries would also be nice. Basically anything goes. Eat on its own, mix into Greek yogurt, top off some oatmeal, serve a side with meat…. Treats that are easy to make and good for you: what could be better?
