Day 5: A Bird's Eye View

We're starting the week with a visit to Centro Centro, located in the old post office building (it's hard to believe that mail used to be important enough to be housed in such a spectacular place - let's all send a post card this weekend to help keep it alive!).

I've blogged about this place before. Despite Tall Guy and I only going here last year, I think it's one of the best places to visit, especially for first time visitors to Madrid. It's a great way to take in the city and get a feel for the layout, which can be tricky especially for us avid metro users who travel underground, popping up at different points around the city like fashionable gophers.

On a clear day, you can walk around the observation deck for 360º views of Madrid. Start at the Metropolis building and follow the Gran Via to Plaza España, or look down La Castellana towards the new sky scrappers. And that large expanse of green you see? The Retiro.

On a clear night the views are equally, if not more, stunning. Watch for night pictures later this month...

  1. I am always going to think of using the metro now in your words, "popping up ...like fashionable gophers"! I laughed out loud. I am enjoying your series!!

  2. That is a great vantage point! The 360 view is good for orientation.
