December Roundup

Happy New Year's Eve, everyone!

Here's what I've been into and up to this month, and as always, you can check out what Leigh and other people are doing here:

Saying: It's really cold here! And then I go outside and enjoy the fresh, crisp, clean air. And then I come inside and get warmed up. And then I poke my head out the door again. Life with snow is amazing.

Reading: I finished Christmas with Anne, a near annual read for me. It's a collection of short stories by L.M. Montgomery, and the theme is, of course, Christmas! Puffed sleeves, happy homecomings, baskets filled with goodies to be shared, and the spreading of Christmas and New Year's cheer, I just love these stories.

I've also stated reading The Orenda. I love Joseph Boyden. Through Black Spruce and Three Day Road were fabulous reads, and The Orenda is so far living up to my expectations. Sailor Girl reviewed it here.

Watching: I'm all caught up on Reign. Leigh, I can't believe what happened in the last episode! Well, I can, because this way it's more dramatic, but I was stressed out watching it! In the first episode, I was pleasantly surprised to see Megan Follows in the cast. She's stunning as the Italian queen of France, a 180 from her days as good-hearted Anne of Green Gables!

Meet Me in St Louis. I watched this for the first time (gasp! fainting!) on the plane on the way home. How did I get this far in life without seeing Judy Garland singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas? Madness.

Emma. A re-watch on the plane, I love this movie!

Merry Christmas, Mr Bean. It's funny.

Listening to: Christmas CDs and playlists including Sarah McLachlan, Holly Cole, The Trapp Family (as in the real Von Trapp/Sound of Music people).

Non-Christmassy - Lorde. Love this voice.

The Good Lovelies. Pretty sure they're named this because they are good singers with lovely voices. They even do a song about driving down to Nashville.... My dad heard this group at a Christmas event and thought I'd like them. And I do!

Eating: way too much. It started when I cooked a turkey dinner for my Spanish family (read: husband, in-laws and partners, dog). Then there was roast beef, turkey number two, pork roast, a dinner out, and salmon. The best thing I ate was a (few) peanut butter marshmallow square that my Grandma makes. I only eat them when I'm in Canada at Christmas, so it's a very special treat.

Drinking: Pure cranberry juice. It's frightfully expensive in Spain, and it's not the "right" kind of cranberry, so I have to fill up while I'm home.

Visiting: I saw Sailor Girl on my first night home (!!!), parents, grandmothers, aunts, uncles, cousins and new baby cousins, Sorority Sister and her new baby, my church peeps, neighbours, friends, and I've got in lots of cat cuddle time as well!

  1. Yes, so fun to see Megan Follows in a villain role. I cannot wait for Reign to come back so we can find out what happens next. Peanut butter marshmallow squares sound amazing.
