The Most Beautiful

The Palace of the Architect - Palacio del Generalife, or Jannat al-Arif, is one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited. This is a sketch-within-a-photo of the Watergarden Court. The sketch is by Allen K Philbrick, and my mom took the pic. I love how the sketch catches the water dancing and the hazy quality of the air.

The palace is located next the Alhambra in Granada and was built between the 12th and 14th centuries. The gardens are so peaceful and the buildings so beautiful, it's no wonder the emirs used it to escape from the business and busyness of palace life. I can just imagine them strolling along the covered walkways, reaching out to brush their hands through the plants to stir up the fragrance. As evening falls, lounging on a pile of cushions, perhaps listening to a musician or two, snacking on dates and oranges and other delicacies.
